Easy Crumbed Salmon in Air Fryer
Crumbed salmon is one of my favorite ways to make salmon. The kids love the crispy outer layers with the supple flaky center and it’s easy for them to eat.
Salmon is one of those wholesome ingredients that is rich in nutrients and high in good saturated fats that is healthy for everyone. It has an aromatic flavor that can be complemented with little condiments. Therefore, salmon is a great protein ingredient used in many simple meals.
I found that salmon done in the air fryer is evenly cooked and has the crispiness and the tenderness that would give me that melting in the mouth texture. In addition, the temperature control is more accurate than the oven or the frying pan which helps to cook it to perfection.
Things to note:
Salmon: You can use either wild or farm salmon for this recipe. I prefer to use wild salmon because it contains higher levels of natural minerals due to its diet. As with any type of seafood, it is best to use fresh salmon so that the fishy taste is not overbearing. However, there are different types of salmon that has different levels if fishy taste intensity. Generally, the lighter the color of the meat the less intensity of the fish taste.
If you feel that the taste is too fishy for you then you can try soaking the salmon in milk for 20 minutes before cooking or squeezing some lemon juice on the cooked salmon.
Texture: The breadcrumbs in this recipe makes the outer layer really crispy however if you are short for time, you can use ready-made breadcrumbs from the supermarket.
Cooking Temperature: Salmon can be easily overcooked therefore getting the temperature and time right is essential to a successful meal.
On the other hand, using a lower temperature would result in a salmon with reduced crispiness. I got a perfect result when I cooked it at 175 degrees Celsius (347 degrees Fahrenheit). However, it may require some experimentation as air fryers may differ slightly with the various models.
Lastly, I prefer my salmon to be medium done. If this is not your preference then adjust the time slightly up or down to cater for your preference.
Air Fryer: When cooking the crumbed salmon in an air fryer, do not place in too many salmon fillets, so it does not get overcrowded. Ensuring space between the fillets helps to achieve better crispiness. Hence, if you’re preparing the dish for a big family, it is strongly advisable that you put them in batches unless your air fryer is big enough. I had to cut my salmon fillets in half for this recipe so that it could fit spaciously in the air fryer basket.
